We serve for the betterment of our community by attaining excellence in the performing arts. We are inclusive of all students who demonstrate a love of theatre and are willing to share their passion with others.

Students who are new to the society (apprentices) must earn 20 points per academic year by being actively involved in the performing arts. Fifteen of these points must be earned from participation in theatrical events sponsored by the CMCP theatre department ie. Mainstage Productions, District Festivals and CMCP Improv Group just to name a few. The sponsor will post the breakdown of points for the society so all members are aware of how they can best earn their required points. The apprentice must earn the twenty points by April 1st of the current academic year. When an apprentice has earned the appropriate twenty points they are invited, at the discretion of the sponsor, to be inducted into the society. The induction will take place at the Honors Induction Ceremony scheduled by CMCP.

After a student has been inducted into the society, they must maintain their membership each academic year by earning twenty points in the same manner as an apprentice. Senior members of the society, in good standing, may receive a Thespian Stole that may be worn at graduation. Officers are appointed by the troupe sponsor.

    • Yearly Dues for all members and apprentices are $5.00

  • National English Honor Society

    Christine Wehnes, M.Ed. - Moderator

    cwehnes@cmlions.org

The NEHS motto, "Gelast sceal mid are," is Old English for: "Duty goes with honor." The motto represents one of the earliest forms of our language—it affirms and celebrates an obligation to use one's gifts in service to others. Service to peers, school, and community is part and parcel of the NEHS mission—and, indeed, in the grammatical structure of the Old English phrase, "duty" actually precedes "honor."

Membership in NEHS is by invitation, extended through a local chapter on behalf of the national organization. Membership in NEHS is an honor bestowed on individuals selected for their accomplishments in the field of English and in overall academic achievement.

The NEHS Constitution sets forth the following minimum requirements for active membership:

    • Attendance at the school the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered. (If special circumstances merit, the Faculty Advisory Council may waive the semester regulation)
    • Completion of the equivalent of two semesters of English prior to induction as members
    • The achievement of a minimum overall and English grade point average of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) prior to induction as members
    • Payment of dues

The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.

As a member of the National Spanish Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica) you are called upon to give service to your school and community.
