We are excited to cheer on our Lady Lions at the 12th Annual C-M Cares Volleyball Invitational today and tomorrow! Come support the team and a great cause!
Lady Lions Volleyball Supports Breast Cancer Research
Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory is proud to host the 12th Annual C-M Cares Volleyball Invitational today (Friday, September 17) and tomorrow (Saturday, September 18). Coach Jason Johnson, Varsity Girls Volleyball coach and Math Department Chair, shared that “The C-M Cares Volleyball Invitational is a 16-team volleyball tournament with competition from around the state participating. Besides allowing for great competition and camaraderie among the volleyball community, it is more importantly a fundraising event for Breast Cancer Research. There is a national campaign by volleyball coaches at all levels around the country to support this cause. One in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Many of us know someone personally that has been diagnosed, so it’s a cause that hits close to home for many. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center at Holy Cross Hospital.”
On Friday, there will be 4 pools of 4 teams each that play in a round robin format. Each team will play against every team in their pool. On Saturday, teams are placed into a 4 team bracket based on their pool play results from Friday. First place teams play in the Gold bracket, second in the Silver, third in the Bronze, and fourth in the Copper. Each bracket plays a semifinal and either a final or consolation match. Every team will play 5 matches in the tournament.
This tournament started years ago as a single match event, and while it has grown in size, it also means so much more to those who participate. Coach Johnson said his favorite thing about the tournament is “The girls enjoy the atmosphere, decorating the gym, and playing in high level matches in their own gym. I enjoy seeing them compete and getting to see the high level of volleyball and competition throughout the weekend. As a coach at CMCP for many years, I also enjoy getting to spend time with other coaches that have become friends.” He also mentioned that the tournament was cancelled last year due to COVID, so there is a lot of excitement to be able to play this year and support a great cause!
We encourage our CMCP community to attend and support our Lady Lions and a great cause. Click here for the ticket link.
