The cast of Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole started rehearsing this week! There are about 50-60 students involved with the production. We can't wait to watch you perform in December!
Down the Rabbit Hole

Rehearsals started this week for the Mainstage production of Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole. The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes is truly remarkable. Let us take you down the “rabbit hole” to get a first-hand glimpse of the cast and the production...

Mr. Gleichauf, Fine & Performing Arts Department Chair, selected Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole. He said he picked it because “CMCP has a plethora of students that are interested not only in performance but design as well and the characters and settings of Alice in Wonderland are a lot more expansive. In addition, since we will be wearing masks, a lot of the characters (cat, mouse, caterpillar, etc.) can have their facemasks painted to match their character so it actually blends with the piece.”

Students who auditioned for the play were given copies of the script and told to choose up to three characters to read for. Students auditioned one at a time and presented their interpretation of the characters they selected. Mr. Gleichauf then selected who to cast as each character based on their performance and the student’s personality. Here is who will be playing some of the main characters:

Mia Respeto ‘24: Alice
Cecila Fernandez ‘24: White Rabbit
Alyssa Ferro-Lloret ‘23: Cheshire Cat
Luiza Silva ‘23: Red Queen
Simmey Sebastian ‘22: Caterpillar
There are about 50-60 students who will have a hand in the creation of the production!

Mr. Gleichauf spends time working with each actor individually to help them learn about their role. Cecilia F. ‘24 shared that the cast learned the backstories of their characters and will not be allowed to share them with each other until the last show! This will be the true test to see if their acting sealed the deal! The cast also learned what their characters want through the story and what the audience would learn through the characters.

Students have the ability and freedom to make this play their own. Every part of the play from the lights, sound, costumes, set, and props will all be selected by the students.

Can’t wait to see the final production? The show will be in Zaragoza Center on December 3 and December 4 at 7:00 PM and December 5 at 2:00 PM. Ticket information will be available soon.
