Harvest Drive
To state the obvious, this has not been an easy year. Our students, families, and administration have made important decisions, faced new challenges, and welcomed a new normal. In our prayers every morning we ask, “What do we need to pray about today,” and throughout the day, you answer. Throughout each and every day, you are the answer. As faculty and staff, we pray for and give thanks to you, our students and families, and the generosity you show us in commitment and spirit every day.
Here at CMCP, we are privileged to be able to make a difference in the lives of so many. Mrs. Blanca Suarez (Guidance) reflects on CMCP’s 12th annual Harvest Drive, a program sponsored by the Interact Club. Mrs. Suarez, when discussing her involvement in the Harvest Drive, emotionally responds, “What started off as a job turned into a passion of mine. I heard God telling me, “You need to do this. You need to continue until you can’t.” She then tells this story.
Mrs. Suarez asks each class to support a family. The students then receive the number of family members and the ages of any children. This particular family in Mrs. Suarez’ story included a young boy of seven, so she included a basketball that was donated along with the food staples. “As we’re bringing in the bags, I put the basketball on top. I knew he was going to love this,” she recalls. But, to Mrs. Suarez’ surprise, “I notice the little boy held the basketball, put it aside, and took out the industrial size can of corn. He kept saying “Mom, mom, look at all the corn we have! Look!” Tears falling silently now, Mrs. Suarez continues, “I thought he was going to go bonkers over the basketball, but this little boy is so happy over a can of corn. That was a very memorable moment for me.”
When the Harvest Drive first started, CMCP fed about 20 families. Last year, we were able to feed over 110 families and had extra supplies to donate to the food bank run by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Seniors Mia and Katelyn, both on the leadership team of Interact Club, love to participate. Katelyn notes, “It’s such a great way for our school to come together.” To Mia, the “Harvest Drive is all about giving back to people who may not have all of the same needs I was blessed with. I am very proud to be part of the Interact Club and this CMCP tradition. It feels good to give back and help the community around me.”
Students will receive more information about the family their donated supplies will support through Theology class. Collection of donated items starts November 2 and ends November 18. Like Mrs. Suarez says, “It’s alot alot of work, but I’m in heaven when I do this. It’s so rewarding and so many people benefit.” May we all be wrapped in a cozy blanket of gratitude this fall season and help others when we can.

Important Updates

A message from the CDC: Many traditional Halloween activities can be high-risk for spreading viruses. There are several safer, alternative ways to participate in Halloween. If you may have COVID-19 or you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give out candy to trick-or-treaters. The CDC’s suggestions for fun alternatives that pose lower risks of spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 can be found here.

If you are not coming to school, do not fill out the Daily Screening Form - even if attending classes online. The Daily Screening Form should be completed by students who will be physically present on campus for that day.
