Lions for Life Donate masks
Lions for Life Presidents Amanda '21 and Amanda '20 show off their mask collection. The CM community stepped up to their challenge to be people of faith and action. It is with great #lionpride that these new, unused masks will be dropped off at the Aventura Library to then be distrubuted to homeless shelters all over South Florida.
Our Girls Are On Fire
What does it mean to be authentic? We hear about creating your authentic brand, your authentic lifestyle, that “authenticity is relatable…” but this is all easier said than done. Add in the pressures of high school - college applications, meeting new people, experiencing new challenges, finding new strengths - and the pandemic!? This is no easy task, high school student or not.
The important part is to remember that you’re not alone. Your entire built-in CMCP family is here for you, and today we’re talking specifically about the women of CMCP. We’re talking about WE.
WE (short for Women Engaged) came about after moderators Mrs. Billisi and Mrs. LaGrange attended a women’s retreat and realized “we needed something for our girls,” says Mrs. Billisi. They attended a training at Smith College to enhance their understanding, and WE:PoWErful began. Year one showcased a lock-in, a workshop, and a middle school camp, and every year after that has been about evaluating the program and its offerings to include social outings, guest speakers, and community service projects. “As mothers of daughters, we saw a need in the CMCP community and felt an innate desire to create the program,” the moderators agreed, “and with each year that passes we challenge ourselves to dig deeper, review the needs of the community, and continue to develop the curriculum.”
The curriculum focuses on the club’s objectives of demonstrating and exercising effective communication skills and cooperative behavior, applying methods for problem-solving and conflict resolution, and recognizing that change is part of growth and can be beneficial.
Session 1 focused on Self-Awareness & Authenticity, bringing us back to the tough question of what does it mean to be authentic? Each participant was asked “What’s one thing you learned from the meeting,” and their responses are candid and genuine ranging from “I learned to always go with my gut feeling” to “You can be authentic without telling everyone you meet everything about you” to “How independent I am” to “Sometimes, I just have to focus on myself. It’s my future. I decide what I want.”
There are many more answers and many more lessons to learn, to teach, to remember. An important one to note? We’re in this together. Our motto of Towards a Better World doesn’t start and stop at the school gates. We’re here to empower each other, to push ourselves and our peers to be the best, most authentic version of ourselves. This process is rarely easy, it's never-ending, but the women of WE will agree that it’s so rewarding. “It is exciting and reverberating to see the fire in these young women as we challenge them (and ourselves) to connect to their peers at CMCP” enthuse Mrs. Billisi and Mrs. LaGrange. To borrow from Alicia Keys for a moment, these girls really are on fire, and we here at CMCP are so proud of their light, and we love to watch them shine in everything they do academically, spiritually, athletically, and more.

The next WE meeting will take place Wednesday, November 17, at 1:50 p.m. in Belanger Hall.  Come out and join these phenomenal young women on a journey of self-discovery, leadership, confidence, and friendship.

A message from the CDC: Traditional Thanksgiving gatherings with family and friends are fun but can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu. Follow these tips to make your Thanksgiving holiday safer.  Click here to read more.
If you are not coming to school, do not fill out the Daily Screening Form - even if attending classes online. The Daily Screening Form should be completed by students who will be physically present on campus for that day.
