Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory to Host Third Annual Lions' Main Event Gala

Hollywood, FL
– Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory will host its third annual Lions' Main Event Gala on Saturday, October 20th at The Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina. It is presented by The Cambridge Network, Nativity School, and Nova Southeastern University.

The evening kicks-off with a cocktail reception and silent auction, with music entertainment provided by the C-M Jazz Ensemble. Julie Guy, Radio Personality at 101.5 Lite FM, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for this year's event. Guests will enjoy an interactive program that will include a fundraising game, heartfelt testimonials and a live auction. Additionally, the winner of the Student Raffle will be drawn and one lucky guest could walk home with $5,000. The night will conclude with a DJ spinning tunes from across the decades as guests dance the night away.

Auction items will include resort stays, luxurious vacation getaways, fine dining experiences, exclusive professional sporting event experiences, signed memorabilia, local attraction passes, and much more.

The cost to attend is $135.00 per person or $270 per couple. Sponsorship opportunities remain available, with marketing exposure and exclusive giveaways included in all sponsorship levels.

The proceeds from the 2018 Chaminade-Madonna Lions' Main Event Gala will provide financial support for Chaminade-Madonna's educational, art, and athletic programs and will directly benefit the students of Chaminade-Madonna.

Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory Welcomes Baseball Coach Dan Scott

Hollywood, FL – Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory today announced that they will be welcoming back Coach Dan Scott to its Baseball program after 8 years.

In that time, Coach Scott has broadened both his coaching experience and network at the Division I, II, and NAIA levels. Coach Scott's successful coaching career includes a strong background at the collegiate level that is sure to contribute to an already robust baseball program. He has coached at Eastern Kentucky University, Belmont Abbey College, and Campsbellsville University. Prior to his successful stints at the collegiate level, Coach Scott was the Varsity Pitching Coach and JV Head Coach at Chaminade-Madonna.

""I am very excited to be back at Chaminade-Madonna," Coach Scott proclaimed, "I look forward to working alongside C-M's leadership team to continue to make a difference in the lives of our student athletes. The Chaminade-Madonna program is rich in tradition and I will strive to continue the successes familiar to C-M Baseball."

In addition to his extensive coaching experience, Coach Scott brings a long list of accomplishments which include winning the 2011 Valley Baseball League Championship, participating in the 2008 Men's College World Series, receiving the 2004 Broward County Pinnacle Award, and playing in the 2003 FHSAA 4A State Baseball championship.

He is also a member of numerous prestigious organizations including the American Baseball Coaches Association, the Florida State University Alumni Association, and the Knights of Columbus Chapter in North Miami.

Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory Celebrates First Season of
Evening Games under New Stadium Lights



Hollywood, FL - Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory adds another groundbreaking accomplishment to its rich history with the installation of stadium lights which will equip Vince Zappone Field with permanent and augmented outdoor lighting.

The school will mark this achievement with a special Let there Be Lights Celebration that will coincide with Chaminade-Madonna's varsity football game against Deerfield Beach High on Friday, August 24 at 7 PM.

For the first time in 58 years, the student athletes at Chaminade-Madonna will have the opportunity to play home games in the late afternoon and evening hours, which will allow for more flexible scheduling for its athletic teams who utilize the venue while allowing greater prevention against heat-related sports injuries for all student athletes.

Head of School, Dr. Judith Mucheck says, "We are grateful to the City of Hollywood for their assistance and guidance in the execution of this lighting initiative. The addition of this feature to Vince Zappone Field will put Chaminade-Madonna on par with the other Broward County high schools whose fields already include outdoor lighting."

Chaminade-Madonna contracted Musco Lighting to install the green technology LED lighting system.

Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory to Host 52nd Annual Golf Classic

Hollywood, FL – Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory will host its 52nd annual Golf Classic on Friday, April 27th at Jacaranda Golf Club in Plantation, FL.

The tournament will begin at 11 AM in the Jacaranda clubhouse with giveaways for all participating golfers. Food and beverages for the Annual Golf Classic will be provided by participating sponsors and Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory alumni-owned businesses.

Golfers' short game skills will be put to the test at a fun putting challenge against Head of School Dr. Judith Mucheck. The Golf Classic will also feature a pneumatic golf ball launching contest where players can enter for their chance to win a prize. Additionally, players can shoot for their chance to win a 2018 Cadillac XT5 at the Hole-in-One Contest sponsored by Ed Morse Automotive Group. There will also be a dinner, Awards Ceremony and Silent Auction immediately following tournament play. Auction items will include resort stays, fine dining certificates, attraction passes, and many more items.

The cost to play is $200 for a single golfer or $800 for a foursome. This cost includes one goodie bag with a tournament shirt, boxed lunch, entry to the Awards Dinner and Silent Auction, and on-course refreshments. Attendees that do not wish to play golf can attend the Awards Dinner and Silent Auction for $65.

Top Community Leaders and Athletes Inducted Into Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory 27th Annual Alumni & Sports Hall of Fame


Hollywood, FL – Top community leaders and athletes will be inducted into the Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory 27th Annual Alumni & Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 10th 2018.

To celebrate the accomplishments of former Chaminade-Madonna students, the school annually recognizes distinguished alumni with a mass and Awards dinner.

The following Chaminade-Madonna alumni will be inducted into this year's Hall of Fame and Sports Hall of Fame:

Dr. Daniel Carney '72

Dr. Daniel Carney was in the 1972 graduating class of Chaminade High School. He attended the University of Miami, graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He was a reporter/photographer at WTVJ Channel 4. He moved to Channel 6 as the weekend sportscaster, then into the position of Sports Director and weekday Sports Anchor. 1980 saw the birth of Cable News Network (CNN), and Daniel became one of the original four sportscasters in a pioneering avenue of broadcast journalism. After two years, he joined Satellite News Channel, ABC's entry into the 24-hour news gathering arena. Eighteen months later, Daniel left broadcasting for the dog racing business in Key West, but a year later, was back in broadcasting as Director of News & Sports Operations for the fledgling WJTC Channel 44 in Pensacola. After seven years, he realized a lifelong passion, entering medical school at Nova Southeastern University in 1991. Upon graduation and internship at Palmetto General Hospital, Daniel moved to Boston for his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and then stayed on staff as Assistant Professor of PM&R at Boston University Medical School. In 2003, Daniel returned to South Florida and took the position of Medical Director of St. Anthony's Rehabilitation Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, where he has been for the past 15 years. Daniel met his wife, Christine, while he was a student at Chaminade and she was a student at Madonna Academy. They have four children Daniel Jr., Michael, Caitlin, and Brian.

Tom Weigel '75

Tom Weigel is a Vice President-Principal Business Relationship Manager with Wells Fargo Bank's Wholesale Business Banking Group. He provides financial management and financing to a diverse portfolio of companies located in Broward County. He is also a Commercial Real Estate Lender to both owner-users and investors. Tom recently celebrated his 40th anniversary with Wells Fargo Bank. Tom is known for his commitment to helping businesses in our community. He was appointed to the City of Hollywood Business Advisory Committee, has conducted Small Business Workshops with Broward SCORE and the National Urban League, and has served on several local charities. Tom resides in Hollywood with Cheryl, his wife of 35 years. His two greatest accomplishments are his daughter Erin and son TJ, who are C-M graduates as well.

Kevin Kelleher '76

A 1976 graduate of Chaminade High, Kevin Kelleher went on to a career of service to his community and his country. After graduating in 1980 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Kevin was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army in Military Intelligence and stationed at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. A career intelligence officer, Kevin served with the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) and the Defense Intelligence Agency prior to leaving the Army in 1987 to join DIA as a civilian. For the last 30 years, Kevin has devoted his professional civilian career to the fields of imagery analysis and national level intelligence with DIA, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, serving his nation in numerous analytic, staff, and management positions. While at Chaminade, Kevin was a running back on Coach Vince Zappone's football team and he ran the hurdles and sprint relays on Coach Bob Sable's track teams. In addition to his professional service, Kevin devoted his personal time to youth athletics, coaching his daughters in both bowling and fastpitch softball for many years. Kevin continues to be active in bowling and golf. He and his wife, Priscilla, reside in Springfield, Virginia, where they are members of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. They are the proud parents of two grown children, Kayla and Kristin.

Tara Green Riahifar '88

At Madonna Academy, Tara Green Riahifar excelled in both academics and athletics. In addition to being an Honors student she was a varsity letter winner in volleyball, basketball, and softball and was voted by her peers as Most Athletic her senior year. In 1988, Tara was awarded a full scholarship to play volleyball at Florida International University. In addition to playing volleyball at FIU, she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and was involved in several service projects that aided Miami's children and homeless. Tara graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood from FIU and started her teaching career in the Broward County school system teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten at Oriole, Larkdale, and Plantation Elementary schools from 1993-2001. She also coached the boys volleyball program at McArthur High School from 1994-1997. After staying home to raise her two children, she returned to the workforce at Nativity Catholic School in 2006 teaching middle school science. At Nativity, Tara has coached the girls' basketball, volleyball and softball teams as well as facilitating the service club elective and most recently has become moderator of the robotics club. Tara has been married to her husband, Bruce, for 19 years and they are the proud parents to Briana and Luke, both of which are current C-M Lions!

Chaminade-Madonna also bestows the Alumni Appreciation Award upon a special member of the C-M community. The Alumni Appreciation award goes to an individual who has personified the school motto of Toward a Better World in their professional, civic and spiritual contributions to C-M.

Carlton Preston, Chief Financial Officer

Carlton Preston is the Chief Financial Officer of Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory. He serves as the managing Team Leader of the Finance and Facilities departments, and also manages risk and capital projects. Carlton was key in the funding and execution of the school's security initiatives including the perimeter fence and gate systems. Last year he was instrumental in the success of installing stadium lights on Zappone Field allowing the school to host Friday night football. His most rewarding project to date is the removal of "Lake Chaminade" (heavy rain flooding) in the student parking lot with a state of the art drainage system underneath the entire campus. Carlton has previously held positions at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami, General Electric Energy Services and Walmart Stores Inc. serving in finance and auditing. He attended Wright State University and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting. Carlton graduated high school from Chaminade-Julienne another Marianist school. He has two daughters, Amelia and Emory.

National Signing Day at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory

Hollywood, FL – Twenty-one Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory student athletes signed letters of intent February 7 to play sports at the next level. Surrounded by family, friends, and coaches, the athletes signed their letters on National Signing Day, officially accepting athletic scholarships offered to them by various top-rated colleges and universities.

Chaminade-Madonna Football Team Wins 2017 Class 3A State Championship Game

Hollywood, FL – The Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory Football team was named the 3A State Champion this Saturday after defeating Oxbridge Academy with a final score of 31-28.

The championship game, which took place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, marks consecutive visits to the 3A State Championships for the Chaminade-Madonna Lions and their third state title. The Lions won championships in 2003 and 2005.

The game was won with four seconds remaining in regulation when kicker Daniel Longman drilled a field goal right down the middle giving the Lions a dramatic 31-28 victory.

This monumental victory comes on the heels of a victory against Clearwater Central Catholic in the Class 3A State Semifinals last month, with Chaminade-Madonna overwhelming their opponent with a 49-3 win.

Additionally, the gala will feature a Magic Mirror Photo booth that provides photographic fun and interactive excitement for all, and the DJ will be spinning tunes from across the decades as guests dance the night away.

Auction items will include resort stays, luxurious vacation getaways, fine dining experiences, exclusive professional sporting event experiences, signed memorabilia, local attraction passes, and much more.

Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory Student Kimberley Sookoo Named Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program

Hollywood, FL –Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced that Kimberley Sookoo has been named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from NMSC was presented to Ms. Sookoo by Dr. Judith Mucheck, Head of School at Chaminade-Madonna.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic performance. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory Holds 9th Annual C-M Cares Volleyball Tournament to Benefit Breast Cancer Research

Hollywood, FL –Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory will hold its 9th annual C-M Cares Volleyball Tournament on Friday, September 22nd through Saturday, September 23rd to benefit breast cancer research. The tournament will be hosted at Chaminade-Madonna and Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School.

Sixteen teams from across the state of Florida will compete on the court with the unified cause of raising funds dedicated to breast cancer research. Last year, the tournament assisted in raising approximately $4,000. In total, the tournament has raised approximately $30,000 since its formation.

Chaminade-Madonna's Volleyball Coach, Jason Johnson, noted that, "We believe that it is important for our student athletes to know that they can make a change in the world and that they can and should be a part of a larger cause. This tournament is one small way that we are able to give back. It is great to see our team and our school community rally together every year to support this event."

The tournament kicks off at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 22nd at Archbishop McCarthy and at 2:00 PM at Chaminade-Madonna, and will end with the championship match on Saturday, September 23rd at 5:45 PM at Chaminade-Madonna.
