Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory Student Kimberley Sookoo Named Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program

Hollywood, FL –Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced that Kimberley Sookoo has been named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from NMSC was presented to Ms. Sookoo by Dr. Judith Mucheck, Head of School at Chaminade-Madonna.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic performance. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to our CMCP Lions football team for being crowned the 3A State Champions after defeating King's Academy with a final score of 38-10. The championship game, which took place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, marks consecutive visits to the 3A State Championships for the Chaminade-Madonna Lions and their fourth state title. "To me it's more than just a back-to-back State Championship," noted Head Coach Dameon Jones. "It's about teaching these young men how to overcome adversity. My goal has always been to mold these young men into successful student athletes and it couldn't be done without the support and help from the entire Chaminade Madonna community."
