C-M Gives Back

Pax Christi
For their Thanksgiving holiday service project, thirteen members of Pax Christi volunteered at Jack & Jill Children’s Center in Fort Lauderdale Jack & Jill offers lower income working families child care services and parent education. C-M students read children stories, helped teachers with classroom activities, and played with children on the playground. The visit warmed the hearts of Pax Christi members, and brought compassion to less fortunate children. “We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season, and we wanted to give back to the community. To see the children at Jack & Jill laugh and smile was a priceless moment for our group,” reflected a Pax Christi member.

Best Buddies

To celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday together, Best Buddies club members invited their Quest Center buddies to lunch in the C-M cafeteria. As a special treat, members of C-M musical classes entertained the Quest Center students. “The visit was truly a wonderful experience,” said club moderator Mrs. Boyd. She continued, “I saw C-M students who are not members of Best Buddies give up their lunch time to sit with our buddies. The outpouring of heart from our students was amazing.”

Key Club

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Key Club members started a clothing drive in collaboration with the entire C-M family. “A lot of students, faculty, and staff donated clothing items. We have so many full boxes!” exclaimed Key Club President Lisa McKenzie ‘10. The Key Club will donate the clothing to Duhaney Pen Church of God located in St. Thomas, Jamaica “Church members are struggling under the recession because the country heavily relies on tourism,” said Lisa. “We connected with their struggle, and wanted to make their holiday season a special one.” During this time of Thanksgiving, the Key Club is grateful for the C-M family’s support of their clothing drive.

Interact

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Hollywood’s Harvest Food Drive, Interact adopted thirty South Florida families for Thanksgiving. In addition to providing Thanksgiving meal staples, Interact filled personalized baskets with arts and crafts supplies, board games, and athletic equipment. The Rotary Club of Hollywood generously donated turkeys, and will distribute the baskets to each family in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. “The Adopt a Family Food Drive helped our students find a deeper meaning in their Thanksgiving service project, and put a face to the people they serve in the South Florida community. Our students reacted with generosity, compassion, and gratitude at the opportunity to identify with struggling families in their local neighborhoods,” said Interact Club moderator Ms. Varese.

The generous and compassionate work of C-M students during the Thanksgiving holiday season is a true reflection of the mission and motto of Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory, "Toward a Better World."
