The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance healthy behaviors that influence lifestyle choices and student health and fitness. Topics that will be covered are: Mental/Social Health, Physical Activity, Components of Physical Fitness, Nutrition and Wellness Planning, Diseases and Disorders, Health Advocacy, First Aid/CPR, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drug Prevention, Human Sexuality including Abstinence and HIV and Internet Safety.
Students will learn the basics of photographic composition and lighting, the basics of using a digital camera and the basics of preparing a digital darkroom. Students will also learn basic color theory and the fundamentals of image processing.
Study major film genres and analyze the thematic content of films presented in class. Some of the films you can expect to discuss in class are: My Sister’s Keeper, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Elizabethtown, Newsies, The Giver, The Lorax, Selma, and many more.
This class exposes students to various types of speeches and argumentation in a basic and straightforward manner. In addition to preparing original speeches, you will learn to speak off-the-cuff and give prepared speeches. You will learn debate techniques and master how to make effective, persuasive class presentations, including PowerPoint, demonstrations, group discussions, and introductions.
Focuses on integrating computer technology with decision-making and problem-solving skills. Areas of instruction may include advanced applications in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and database software as well as on-line searching and web design.
This course provides students with opportunities to develop their literary talents. This course includes a study of varied forms of prose and poetry and gives students the experience to write creatively in different genres.
This course is designed for students interested in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, fitness, physiology of exercise, nutrition, and other sports medicine related fields. Students will be exposed to practical hands-on application in the following areas: prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries, taping and wrapping of injuries, first aid/CPR, emergency procedures, and sports medicine careers.
Students will learn how to perform in a musical ensemble, will learn basic and advance techniques on the piano and will discuss the history of music through videos and discussions.
