Honor Societies

Membership to an honor society is one way in which C-M recognizes excellence in academics, leadership, character, and service to our community. Students who meet the specified requirements are invited to join one (or more) of the following honor societies:

Art Honor Society

Mrs. Angela Canosa, Moderator

The purpose of the National Art Honor Society is to inspire and recognize those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art; and to help student members to attain their highest potential in all forms of art, and to raise awareness of art education throughout the school and community.

English Honor Society

Mr. Jeff Harrison

To recognize on the national level those who, on the basis of academic grades and performance, merit special note for past and current accomplishments; To nurture members to further develop their abilities in the various fields of English; And to encourage members to use their talents in the service of others.

French Honor Society

Ms. Vesselina Nikolov, Moderator

The National French Honor Society is a service organization. To be eligible, a student must have maintained at least a B average in the first two years of study. Students in the society offer tutoring to students who need extra help in the French language.

International Thespian Society

Mr. Joe Catalano, Moderator

The Thespian Society offers students and teachers a forum for sharing theater expertise and for gaining recognition of their skills through participation, competition, and college scholarships.

Mu Alpha Theta

According to the Constitution and By-Laws, Mu Alpha Theta has the following objectives:

  • To promote mathematical interest at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory and the surrounding community.
  • To provide a responsible tutoring service in the fields of mathematics to all students of Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory.
  • To provide a social group for students with a high aptitude in mathematics.
  • To instruct its members in the fundamental traits of self-discipline, self-confidence, and self-government for the attainment of leadership and distinction in intellectual and civic accomplishments.
  • To exemplify the Marianist philosophy in all activities for the goal of leading Toward a Better World.
  • To do all other things necessary and appropriate for those objectives and the welfare of its members.

National Honor Society

NHS creates enthusiasm for scholarships, promotes worthy leadership, and encourages a greater development of character in all students.

Rho Kappa

Mr. David Monaco, Moderator

The mission and purpose of Rho Kappa, the National Social Studies Honor Society is to promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies in secondary school environments and the community; provide through its local chapters opportunities for exploration in the social studies in secondary school environments and the community; and encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.

Science Honor Society

Mrs. Linda Fisher-Meerow, Moderator

To recognize and encourage scientific and intellectual thought within the science area. To communicate with the scientific community and to aid fellow students in the comprehension of science.

Spanish Honor Society

Ms. Ana Cristina Ojeda, Moderator

The Spanish Honor Society recognizes high achievement in Spanish and promotes continuity of interest in the Hispanic Studies.
